Humanity has never faced such a critical situation as the current one, in which its own existence is questioned. When several European countries hint at the possibility of a confrontation between NATO and Russia, and even militarily prepare to face such an eventuality, the risk is real. But what lies behind this madness?
It seems true that Europe, along with the US, possesses a greater and even better arsenal of conventional weapons, consequently, Russia would lose the war. But neither the Russians nor anyone else, having the largest and best stockpile in the world, with more than six thousand nuclear weapons, would tolerate such a defeat, because dignity is worthless to them once they are dead.
Ultimately, the consequences of Russia using nuclear weapons would mean the extinction of humanity. Its arsenal is the most powerful in the world and combined with that of the US and Europe, it would be hell for humankind and our planet.
According to scientists, about four days after the atomic explosion, when the smoke clears, leaving hundreds of millions dead, what they consider the worst would begin, referred to as "nuclear winter," thus ensuring "mutual assured destruction." In other words, both the Russians and their adversaries would perish, and humanity would be in danger of extinction.
And all of this, why? And for what? Because of the selfishness of an elite that dominates the world economy, which sees capitalism's validity about to expire, just as it happened with feudalism and slavery, for the dialectic of history is relentless. But they maintain the opinion that without their presence, the world has no reason to exist.
In this explosive terrain, we workers navigate, ignoring a reality that is far from science fiction. Capitalist politicians avoid opening debate on this matter, meaning their alignment with European positions is unquestioned. Ultimately, workers might find themselves embroiled in a hellish war, asking why? And for what?
Faced with this panorama, parliamentary right and left, the press, radio, and television in our country evade this cardinal problem so that, when the time comes, we accept it irreversibly.
PCOE calls upon the working class of our country, intellectuals, popular associations such as class unions, neighborhood associations, and the entire working people in general, to demand from the government the withdrawal of Spain from monopolistic associations such as NATO and the EU, guarantors of capitalist exploitation over the working classes and promoters of wars.
We call on all communists and leftists to unite in a broad front against war and for the struggle for socialism.
